Technically called Symphytum Officinale, this is used in traditional medicine internally (as an herbal tea or tincture) or externally (as ointment, compresses, or alcoholic digestion) for treatment of various disorders, including commonly as a treatment for reducing the pain of osteoarthritis. Internally it is used to treat digestive disorders, diarrhea, stomach cramps, and severe coughs.Though extremely effective in treating the above conditions, people with liver problems should avoid its use and all others use sparingly because of its potency which can become toxic if too much is ingested or used over too long of a period of time.Women who are pregnant or soon to be pregnant should also not use this until after labor.
